Solaris is another movie I have enjoyed in our class. The only thing I did not enjoy in the movie was how slow it was. Overall, there was probably twenty minutes of looking at just the ocean (I am over exaggerating of course, but still). I also wish it was more of a psychological thriller and had more jump scares. In the beginning I was spooked a little, which I like, but no scares as we went further into the movie.
All of the characters has a lot of problems in their own ways. Each saw what they desired or thought about most in their subconscious, and some of the things we saw were weird. There was a little man who was trying to leave the scientists lab. Like. What? Who was this person, who brought this character to life, and why was the scientist holding this guy captive?
The ending was a little weird. Was not expecting it at all. I wonder why he did what he did, instead of going home to face his fears… I wish we learned more about the planet and why it would bring people to life. This was a very weird movie, but very fascinating!
Yes, it is a strange and eerie film, but I agree that is what makes it unique and memorable.
I highly recommend watching this director’s other sci fi masterpiece “Stalker.” I like it even better, very weird and cool.
