Aelita, Queen of Mars (1924)

I was expecting a lot from the movie Aelita, Queen of Mars (1924), and I think those expectations were met. From previous movies I have watched for the class, this one was not my favorite, but it was most definitely the most interesting. The costumes and scenes were not like any other film during its time, and I am pretty sure it won some awards for it.

I was expecting there to be a lot of scenes to be in Mars, but it was mostly based on Earth. Like most Russian films, it talked a lot about the revolution and how great Russia is. A lot of the characters were very involved in their communities trying to help out and such.

Aelita was a very beautiful queen falling in love with someone on Earth. However, I was expecting more of a love scene or even stronger connection between the two characters. I also wish we saw Aelita being more of a strong ruler. It felt like she was mostly on the outside looking in. In the end she did well but it came out of nowhere.
